Developing a project application with the purpose of getting grants from an EU programme can be a challenging and time-consuming process – typically with a duration of 9-13 months.

EU Project Cycle
The typical timeframe before an EU funded project can start operating

The Project Development Facility is designed to help non-experienced/less experienced companies, organizations, NGOs, researchers, etc. with the application process in relation to EU programmes. It should be noted that this tool is not designed for a specific EU programme, but to give applicants an overall indication of the project development and application process.

The tool is intended to be used by the institution to provide an overview of the long application process within the EU programmes. It advises on how project participants should act on each step in the project development cycle. Further, it refers to several and relevant websites. At the bottom of each under page the applicants will find a number of utilities, e.g. “partner search template”, “problem tree template” etc., to ensure that applicants have gathered all information needed throughout the entire process - from project idea to the preparation of the application - in simplicity and without losing any consistency.

The Project Development Facility consists of 6 phases, which are illustrated in the top of the page. Applicants are not required to go through all phases of the Project Development Facility. It is structured to guide at any phase in the project development. Applicants with a concrete project idea, who have found competent project partners, do not necessarily need to use the advices given in 3rd phase (“We need good project partners”), but can easily draft their application keeping in mind the advices given in the 4th and subsequent phases.

Are you an applicant? Please click on the phase, which is relevant in your process and follow the advices and instructions given. And/or read the following, where all phases are described in detail.
